illusions of grandeur.

(a freewrite).

maybe we'll be chasing  the dream of 4o acres & a mule forever. the struggle can become draining at times, so persistent, it renders us helpless & in attempts to maintain sanity we reward ourselves in tangible goods. perhaps freedom comes with death, which is why money is so damaging. it is the substitution of our mental paradise manifested in the physical. hold on, i feel like i'm not saying this clearly enough.

it is an illusion because, all of the black people i have ever seen receive their 4o acres, 4o million dollar mansions, and 40/40 clubs (no shots) have all been 4o million dollar slaves. we dream that these things will exalt us so that we will be equal in the eyes of those who hold power in this society, when all it does is instill a corrupted mentality within ourselves. One that we will carefully & inadvertently pass along to our children, keeping it alive for generations after we are gone.

there is no God in money. there is no fulfillment. there is no happiness. so why do we continue to attach our beings, our passions and dreams to something so empty. something that is not there?

  1. Unfortunately, money and material goods have replaced spirituality- our self concept IS our things. So struggle is no longer freedom to just be, its become the struggle to be what white people want me to be so I can have more money and more self esteem... Sad story of the Afro-human being. Sometime I just want to be like "F" it all!!
